It was another awesome weekend on Willows with personal bests getting smashed everywhere. There have been at least another three 40s out and we’ve lost count of how many thirties were caught! If you catch anything from the lake please make sure you send us a catch report andphoto, just some basic details like name and fish weight is enough if you don’t want to go into detail. We need to keep our fish records up to date and would really appreciate your help.
Jonny Worrilow has been getting amongst the biggies recently with his last couple of visits producing a stack of good fish to 43lb-plus! We’re still waiting on the pics of the 43-pounder, but in the meantime here’s a photo of a chunky 36lb mirror he bagged on another recent visit!
Simon Richardson is another angler who had a great first visit to Erics Willows Lake. Here’s the smaller of two good fish he bagged, and what a nice dark fish it is too! During his stay he also smashed his PB with a cracking 35lb-plus mirror
Some Feedback to Share
Thought we would share some comments with you all from one of our recent first time visitors…
Just finished my first 24 hour session on the lake. It was a blank this time. I have to say everyone was really friendly and gave me loads of advice. Everyone had their own hints and tips but the thing I took away is that there are no patterns, hot swims or codes to crack. Trial and error/success. Some anglers during my session had fished the lake for years, some for the first time. It is a good looking venue, quite exposed so the wind gets up. The water is very clear and the swims are well maintained as is the path leading to the lake and generally litter free. On to the fish…WOW. Through my binoculars I did see a few being pulled out from the other side of the lake and another lucky chap on his maiden session and even from a distance they were impressive. The reason the fish are in such good condition is also down to the way they are treated on the bank. Giant unhooking mats, buckets of water at the ready, even checking the position of the fins in the net and supporting their bellies when lifting out the water. They were handled like babies (slightly heavier than the average baby but you get the idea.) It was great to see nearby anglers helping with the landing, unhooking, photographing and safe return of the fish and shared in the captor’s excitement. I can understand that there are concerns over the sudden increase in members but as long as the 15 anglers limit is in place hopefully the pressure will be kept to a min and the fish will continue to end up on the bank regularly. A big thank you to bailiff Steve as well for always answering his phone and being a massive help. Justin Cavalier
