Simon Harbottle visited the lake for a two day session on wednesday the 18th March and here is how the session unfolded;
This was my 1st trip out in over 2 months and I’ve been chomping at the bit to wet a line, my mate Simon West mentioned Erics Willows and I didn’t take much persuading. On arrival to the lake we could see it was pretty busy and the swims in the area we fancied were occupied. After a lap of the lake I opted for peg 16, this had a little bit of form a few weeks ago producing a 29lb mirror to Alan Smith but had been quiet of late as had the lake in general. All the anglers on my bank had a quiet night and I saw nothing show so I decided to sit it out where I was. We watched the eclipse and were due to pull off at mid day. At about 11.15am I saw what I thought was a fish show at about 70 yards so I quickly reeled my left hand rod in and whacked a rig in that area. It was only there for about 10 minutes and screamed off. The fish managed to weed me up a couple of times before I saw it on the surface about 15 yards out and thought to myself “that’s a lump” A fellow angler Stuy Newy slipped the net under it and I just smiled, we both knew it was a good chunk and it tipped the scales to 40lb 10 job done!!!
Frustration at the thought of walking off with my cheque book and pen soon turned to a huge grin. This just goes to show that it’s never over until it’s over. Be lucky lads!
