Gavin Boyd recently returned from a dream session……
All started when I got a call from my brother while on my way to the lake, describing he had been round and seen fish in front of pegs 7 and 8 and with no-one in them, So when I arrived we will dropped in them with me heading into 8. Straight away I started to figure out where I would fish to with the middle rod; the channel between the island and bank, the right in short of the island both on the bottom and then I decided to fish the left rod on a 2ft zig to the back of deep hole in 4.5ft in light weed. I was feeling confident with fish in the area.
It wasn’t till 6 the following morning that i got a take on my zig rod. After a decent battle close in, it went it the net. I’ve been dying to get over the 30lb barrier and I thought this was close to the mark after weighing and re- weighing, it was a new PB at 32lb on the nose. And my 1st ever fish on a zig. So the rod went back to the weed and I was still seeing fish in the area all day so I changed my middle rod onto a zig too and found another spot with low lying weed. At 3.45am, it was this rod that went, was a battle close in and again looked close to the 30lb barrier again was weighed twice and the scales went to 34lb 06oz and another pb.
The rod went out again and only had to wait a few hours and the left hand rod sprang in to action at 9am and another battle commenced this was again over 30lb at 31lb on the nose. I was buzzing, been an effort to get over the 30lb barrier, i would of gladly gone home happy at that point. But more was to come and at 9.45 the middle rod registered a take and i was in again this was an epic battle with it keeping low and pulling hard. Thought it was going to go in the net at first time of asking but it powered off again. At this point i knew it was another new pb and another 5min past and i got it to the net and this time my bro netted it for me. Wow what a session this is i thought so lifted her out and got her weighed and yes another new pb at 42lb.
I would like to thank all the anglers i have met at the lake what a great bunch you all are.
What a session……Them bitterly cold pack ups in the snow all count towards something – see both of you soon.
