After arriving at the lake on Tuesday morning I spent some time walking and talking to see how people were getting on and also where the fish were. Peg 10 had become available so I wondered down to have a look and decided to set up in there as a number of fish had come out of peg 8 and 9 so thought they couldn’t be too far away. Tom was very helpful and pointed out a few nice areas/features in the swim so I set about getting the rods sorted and out. It wasn’t long before I had my first take of the session. The fish weeded me up initially but after applying steady pressure it came free and was eventually in the net after a hard fight. My first trip to Willows and within 3 hours of fishing I had landed a stunning 36lb 12oz mirror, a new English pb for myself. The rods went back out and it wasn’t long before I had another take which had me all over the place. 2 weed beds and a sunken margin tree this fish had me in but with my waders on I could walk up to the snag and free the fish safely and eventually slip the net under it. It was a scraper 20lb common. After this flurry of action the fish moved off and I finished the session with 2 fish. Great place, challenging but rewarding at the same time with friendly, helpful anglers.
