James Mac managed to squeeze in his last session (he said that last time) down at the lake for 3 days with two of the lads and here is how things unfolded….
“I arrived at the lake Friday morning the sun was shining an the conditions was looking good a bite, especially after seeing a few fish up in the water around 11 area so my first thought was to try a zig. Sadly nothing materialized but I left a zig out in the area in case they moved back in the morning.
I tried to locate the fish the following day but the mist made things difficult until the sun burnt through just as my middle rid melted off. I lifted into it and took things steady as I felt the fish weed me up. Taking no chances, I jumped straight into the boat to improve my chances and just as I was maneuvered myself above it, the fish came free and I spent the next ten minutes back into battle.
Safely in the net and the equipment prepared by the lads on the bank, we transferred her to the sling….
43lb 8oz which is a new personal best for me. Absolutely buzzing my first 40 from willows and a new PB GET IN!!!
After looking back at the zig link it is understandable why there has been a rule amendment stating you need to scale up to 15lb hooklinks as mine was battered after the weed. After I calmed down I knew what I had to do, It was time to tie a new zig.
The next day was very quite with no fish showing as it was a fair bit colder and cloudy but just before dark my left rod which was fished just off the island burst into life which resulted in a 35lb mirror.”
What a session, until next time…..
